Every month, The Mission of Yahweh selects a special person or special group as volunteer(s) of the month. These volunteers make a great impact on the lives of our residents. The Month of September we selected “The WM”, “Design for Peace Project” headed by Letricia Wilbanks and Selina Mackay.

About 6 years ago the WM decided to partner with The Mission to create a fresh start for our ladies and families as they are ready to leave the Mission and move into their own space. To date they’ve completed an entire home make-over for about 9 residents as they successfully completed the program at The Mission, met their goals, saved their money and secured their new space.

Arriving to an empty apartment the team sends the family off for the day while they work their magic,. using all donated furniture, household decorative items, practical items for the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, etc.. They even fill the refrigerator and pantry at times. This group of makeover magicians add cleaning supplies, towels, washcloths, and more, turning the bathroom into a spa like environment and have even created special wonderland spaces for the children who love sports or Disney characters.

Letricia says “One of the things I love about MOY is they are all about not giving handouts but giving a hand-up. ” She says “I’m always blown away by the ladies there because I realize how this could be me, and actually this could be any of us. It’s really wonderful to be able to do this and help create a fresh start. For me, this feeds my soul.”
