Barbara bush children's library dedication

Continued from June 2019 Newsletter

Thursday, May 16 was a joyous day for the Mission of Yahweh, as we dedicated the Barbara Bush Children's Library.   Funding was provided by a grant from the Ladies for Literacy Guild of the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation.  We would like to express to everyone in attendance a heart felt "Thank You" for making it a wonderful celebration for the Mission.

Statistics on literacy are overwhelming. It’s so important to motivate our children to read at a young age knowing that education is the gateway to success as an adult. Reading is such an invaluable skill and it affects every aspect of our lives, from communicating with others, seeking out job opportunities, learning to drive, and more. We are told that if children struggle with reading in their younger years, it increases the odds that they’ll do so as adults. Having this library is the first step in helping our resident children expand their minds and see opportunity and adventure ahead of them.

Our Library dedication could not have been possible without the help of members of the Ladies for Literacy Guild of the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation. Ms Donatella Benckenstein and Betty Hrncir were instrumental in providing their  vision and creativity in making the library a fun, bright and inviting space for kids to want to hang out and read. Thank you also for all the long hours and sharing your knowledge and expertise in children’s books – Ms. Cindy Puryear and Ms. Sandra Shenkir. So many hours of sorting and organizing books for the shelves. Thank you also to the man whose team did all the physical work to get the room ready to decorate – Mr. Mike Crigler, Mission of Yahweh Board Member and Owner of Home Remedy. His company team put in hours of restructuring the doors and walls, building closets, custom made shelving and even putting in new recessed lighting.

The Executive Committee, Book Drive Committee, and the Grant Committee for the Ladies for Literacy  Guild Committee, were all instrumental in helping us see this day come to fruition. A special thanks to the grant  committee team Donatella Benckenstein, Ginger Blanton, Cathy Cleary, Mignon Heizer, Cindy Puryear, Sandra Shenkir, and Carrie Eickenroht, and Betty Hrncir co-chairs. You all are so important to us, because you saw a need and were so eager to help us fulfill this need for our young residents.

Reading helps dreams come true.  In this new library the children of the Mission will be able to dream big  and have the opportunity to develop to their fullest potential in life through literacy.
