Since the Mission's second Thrift Shop opened in November 2007, business has been growing and the training ministry helping even more people. A nice article in the Houston Business Journal helped get the word out earlier this year. In addition to providing low-cost house wares and clothing for residents of the low-income community it serves, the ministry also supports a training program for Mission of Yahweh residents who take turns working in the store. The training ministry is blossoming as more Mission residents schedule time to learn resale operations skills.

“We’re so pleased that more residents are showing interest. It is extremely beneficial to learn how a retail operation is run and how much of what they learn transfers to real life lessons they can use,” said Mission Director, Dee Johnson.

The Thrift Shop ministry always needs donations from individuals and companies. Clothing is an important staple, but the most needed items for this store location are furniture and electronics, TVs, VCRs, stereos, etc. Electronics must be in working order, so please do not bring broken items.

Want to Help? Come and Shop! The store is clean, well organized and full of great treasures you’ll enjoy finding. Donations are always welcome!

Drop off your donations of clean used items during business hours at the store, located at 8151 Long Point.
